the yanks during all the hoopla forgot to give a nod to Joe Torre and Roger Clemens...and most of all...they didn't mention longtime stadium organist Eddie Layton ...for shame on them !

I don't understand the Torre omission, so there may still be some bad blood between him and the Yankees. Clemens' name would have been booed since the steroid issue is still out there. (Plus, he was on the downside when he signed with the Yankees. His milestones were reached for his cumulative career before he wore pinstripes.)
Eddie Layton was indeed mentioned in a traivia quiz: Who "played" for the Yankees, the Rangers, and the Knicks in the same season? In the answer his long tenure for the Yankees was mentioned.
This is a ceremony where some people had to be left out in the interest of time. No mention of Chad Curtis (remember him?) and his WS heroics, as one example.

they should have paid homage to Eddie Layton...not a trivia quiz question...

I was kind of surprised they mentioned JESSIE BARFIELD in the outfield category...and never mentioned Jim Leyritz at all. Jessie Barfield? ? All in all, however, is was a WONDERFUL and MOVING tribute to the greatest sports venue that ever existed. I've been crying for 3 days

Many of us don't believe that it is really over...until we start to see Yankee Stadium disappear bit by bit. It's hard to get excited about the new Stadium because Yankee fans are still in denial and "bereavement". Something like not warming up to Dad's new wife before Mom is even cold.

They actually did a tribute to Eddie Layton after the game.
Once I recover from it all, I hope to put a piece with pictures on the site. It was very tough leaving that place on Sunday night -- it was something I NEVER looked forward to since they made the new stadium announcement in 2005.
I've sat with the same people for over 12 years now and we all have become great friends. I mean the whole section knows everyone and Warren (who is truly a great baseball fan) can attest to that because he was sitting with me on Saturday. Even vendors were coming down to say their goodbyes on Sunday.
As I said, for me, it will take a little more time before I can write about the events. The impact on long-time fans really hit hard.

if you saw the movie Fever Pitch...LOU is the yankee version and the section is "his" summer family.

if you saw the movie Fever Pitch...LOU is the yankee version and the section is "his" summer family. Very true! As for me, I too can't believe they are doing this. I could imagine Fenway Park or Wrigley Field getting shut down before they did this. It is unfathomable and yet that's exactly what they're doing. Sad. I'd almost say tragic.

someday...when Greed reaches it's peak in their respective places...they will tear down Fenway and Wrigley.
